Hitendra Ghosh is an Indian sound designer who works in the bollywood film industry. He is one of the leading sound designers in India. Hitendra Ghosh is known for giving better soundtracks in best films like Swadesh Jungle and Rang De Basanti. Hitendra Ghosh was awarded the National Film Award for Best Audiography for the 1985 film Ek Pal and the 2011 action film Game. Apart from this, he was also given the award for Best Sound Recording for the 1978 film Junoon.
Life Journey
Hitendra Ghosh was born in 1950 in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. His parents used to teach art in Scindia School. Hitendra Ghosh Completed His Primary Education at Scindia school. Hitendra Ghosh had become interested in art during his childhood studies, so he thought of pursuing himself in this field.
His father died when Hitendra was 7 years old. His mother took care of him in his childhood, when Hitendra turned 17, his mother also passed away. Jitendra Ghosh completed his primary education by staying in Gwalior, after that he went to Delhi to complete his further education. Hitendra Ghosh had a very difficult childhood. Hitendra Ghosh used to teach tuition to children to earn his living.
Educational Journey
Hitendra Ghosh completed his secondary education at Engineering College, Madhya Pradesh. Hitendra used to do a part-time job to continue his education. He worked as an ADC for 3 years and completed his degree.
After that, he went to Delhi for further education and there he started working in the Central Public Works Department, but Jitendra Ghosh did not like the job for which he was hired. So he left that job because he wanted to do better. Hitendra Ghosh had seen an advertisement which was for a sound engineering syllabus, he thought of enrolling in that film institute in Pune. He decided to apply and he also passed that aptitude test after which he was selected for that program.
Career Journey
Hitendra Ghosh used to give tuition to school children to pay for his sound designer program as his course was very expensive. He used to play the drum called Bongo during that time. When Hitendra Ghosh was in the last year of his education, he got an opportunity to work as a sound recorder for a feature film.
At that time director, Shyam Benegal was the examiner of Hitendra Ghosh at the Pune Film Institute. Shyam Benegal had called him to meet him after the examination was over. This is where his film career started. Shyam Benegal offered him to work as a sound designer in his film Nishant. He accepted that offer and went to Bombay to work with him. This was Hitendra Ghosh’s first film in which he acted as a sound recorder.
Hitendra also did freelancing work while staying in Bombay for some time. Later he also joined Rajkamal Studio where he was hired to work as a sound mixer. Hitendra Ghosh had worked with many great personalities, including great directors like Satyajit Ray, Yash Chopra, and Feroz Khan.
Awards
Hitendra Ghosh was honored with three Filmfare Awards and two International Indian Film Academy Awards. Filmfare Award for Best Sound Designing and Academy Award for Best Sound Track. In 2008, Hitendra Ghosh was also honored for technical excellence in the Indian Hindi film industry at the Bombay International Film Festival.
Till the year 2017, he worked in more than 3600 films in sound designing and sound mixing. This is also the best figure and best record in the Indian film industry.
